McCarthy Building Companies, Inc.Position Summary
The Steel Procurement Coordinator is responsible for managing the sourcing, purchasing, and coordination of steel materials for fabrication and construction projects. This role ensures timely and cost-effective procurement of steel products while maintaining AISC compliance, quality standards, and supporting project schedules. The coordinator will work closely with vendors, project managers, and engineers to ensure alignment between material availability, project specifications, and AISC certification requirements.
Key Responsibilities
• Coordinate the procurement of steel and related materials for fabrication operations.
• Verify all suppliers and fabricators to meet AISC certification requirements and maintain up-to-date compliance documentation.
• Review requisition forms, project specifications, and AISC standards to determine material requirements.
• Ensure Material Test Reports (MTRs), mill certifications, and traceability records are collected and filed for all procured steel.
• Collaborate with Quality Control to confirm welding, bolting, and fabrication meet AWS/AISC compliance standards.
• Prepare and issue purchase orders in accordance with company policies and AISC requirements.
• Track and expedite orders to ensure timely delivery of compliant materials to shops and job sites.
• Maintain accurate procurement and compliance records, including certificates, inspection reports, and quality assurance documentation.
• Support project teams and auditors with AISC compliance documentation during inspections and reviews.
• Resolve issues with suppliers regarding certification discrepancies, delivery delays, or quality concerns.
Qualifications
• Associate or Bachelors degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred).
• 24 years of procurement, purchasing, or supply chain experience in the construction or steel industry.
• Knowledge of AISC standards, certification requirements, and quality documentation (required), including AISC compliance knowledge and documentation management.
• Strong understanding of steel products, fabrication processes, and compliance with ASTM/AISC material specifications, with technical knowledge of steel materials.
• Proficiency in procurement software and MS Office Suite; experience with ERP systems (e.g., CMiC, Tekla)
• Demonstrated vendor management and negotiation skills.
• Experience in supply chain coordination and cost control with budget awareness.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams.
• Strong time management, prioritization, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
