Description

The role...

This role is a full time, 6 month long contract position. The Facilities Engineer provides a broad range of professional engineering services within commonly defined engineering disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, structural/civil utilities, and/or environmental engineering, in support of physical plant construction/repair and facilities planning programs. Performs and/or oversees integrated engineering planning, design, and development, and provides strategic professional leadership, guidance, technical coordination, and review to engineering consultants and support staff on a project basis, as appropriate to the discipline.

You'll have the opportunity to...

  • Provide engineering oversight related to the maintenance, repair and modification of equipment controls/communications, application software, electrical/electronic systems, or mechanical devices and equipment. 
  • Conduct research and development activities concerned with design, construction, and production of facilities and systems. 
  • Oversee, review, and approve the work of external engineering design and planning consultants; ensures that engineering designs are consistent with contract specifications and all relevant regulations and engineering standards.
  • Identify, investigate, and analyze a wide range of complex engineering problems and development needs, within a broad area of specialty.
  • Plan and develop project budgets and develop appropriate project implementation strategies and plans.
  • Represent discipline as appropriate in the engineering aspects of strategic facilities planning.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for all facilities engineering related projects; sets project parameters, evaluates compliance with project and engineering standards, and approves final designs and installations.
  • Facility Solutions Software integrator/administrator. Plan, organize, and document training activities, leverage our existing database, investigate new opportunities to enhance current solutions, support regulatory requirements (ISO 9001), be able to adapt to new technologies and changing requirements. 
  • Support sustainability objectives through planning, regulating, and monitoring energy use. Improve energy efficiency through evaluating energy use, analyzing data, and implementing new policies and changes. Assist with coordinating all aspects of energy management, from energy efficiency, data collection/analysis and reduction of carbon dioxide emissions to waste management and sustainable development by:
    • Encouraging the use of renewable/sustainable energy resources.
    • Deriving solutions for carbon management.
    • Raising the profile of energy conservation.
  • Document facilities practices, procedures, and knowledge base. 
  • Ensure compliance of projects with all relevant local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations, guidelines, and policies.
  • Support and promote safety programs.
  • Perform engineering and technical studies, where applicable, to ensure conformance of equipment and systems with functional specifications and customer requirements.


Requirements

Who you are and what you bring to the team...

  • B.S. in a directly related engineering field or equivalent experience is required. 
  • 5 or more years directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. 
  • 5 or more years’ experience with the following equipment types: security systems, card access systems, camera systems, process waste treatment, purified water systems, and environmental conditions/controls for laboratories.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of engineering principles, methods, and techniques within a broad area of specialty.
  • Experience in HVAC operation and support including air handlers, chillers, boilers, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, air compressors, and building automation.
  • Knowledge and understanding of all relevant federal and state laws, regulations, and operating guidelines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership and project management to engineering projects of high complexity and broad scope.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate the work of technical consultants and/or contractors.
  • Ability to develop and manage project budgets, and to track project costs using applicable techniques.
  • Knowledge and understanding of varied disciplines and ability to coordinate interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to analyze complex engineering problems and devise creative and effective solutions.
  • Ability to read, write, analyze, and interpret standardized operating procedures, equipment and architectural drawings, and equipment manuals.
  • High degree of oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Understanding of Balanced Scorecard, Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma concepts.
  • Ability to multi-task and problem solve.

  • Training/certifications/licenses related to this position are a plus.

Physical Conditions/Physical Requirements...

  • Work environment varies throughout the day depending on activity. (i.e. quiet workspace to louder when interfacing with equipment.)
  •  Must be able to sit/stand throughout the day Able to lift 25lbs
